Before you read:
Activity
One: Write and publish a story, on the internet, about a time when you shared
something with another person or friend. Think about how it made you feel? How
did it make the other person feel? Why do you think it is important to share with
others? Click here
to write and publish your story. When story is published, you need to print out a
copy to turn in.
Activity
Two: Choose one of the following friendship items to make. Follow
the instructions given on the website. Turn in the project to be graded before
sharing it with a friend.
1) Friendship Bracelet

While you read:
While you read the story,
make a list of at least 5 vocabulary words of things found in the sea. Write a definition
for each word. You can use the dictionary
to help you find the definitions. Turn in the completed list when you are finished.
After you read:
Choose one of the following activities to complete after you read
the story.
1) Think about the events that happened in The Rainbow Fish.
Use the chain of events
chart as a model to put the main
events of the story in order. You should have 5-7 main events
included in your chain. Turn in the completed chart when you
are finished.
2) Think about the four major parts of a story: the plot,
characters, setting, and major themes in The Rainbow Fish.
Print out the story
cluster. Fill it in with the title in the
center circle, the four major parts of the story in the next
set of circles, and each of the related elements in the last set
of circles. Turn in the completed cluster when you are
finished.
Beyond what you read:
Choose two of the following activities the complete.
1) Learn more about the ocean by becoming an investigator.
Go to the Secrets at Sea site and become Ace. Go
through
each chapter of the game. Following the instructions to
solve the mystery of what is making the killer whale
population sick.
2) Choose two activities or games from the
Treasures at Sea:
Interactive site. The activities include
crosswords, word searches, puzzles, and more.
3) Read and enjoy learning about some of the animals
mentioned in The Rainbow Fish by going to the
Treasures at Sea: Books
site.
4) Create your own rainbow fish. Follow the direction below to
make your own rainbow fish.
Directions:
1. Trace around the pattern of the fish on to
a piece of construction paper.
2. Cut out the shape of the fish.
3. Cut the aluminum foil into the shape of scales.
4. Glue aluminum scales to your fish.
5. Draw more scales on to your fish.
6. Now you have your very own rainbow fish!!!
