- paper
- pencil
- pen
- computer
- printer

Before you read:
Before you read Where the Red Fern Grows complete the following activity:

- Billy Coleman works very hard to save money to buy two coon dogs. He has to save for two years before he has enough money to buy the puppies. Click on  dog challenge  to find out how much you know about taking care of a dog. Just click on the answer you feel is correct. The computer will tell you what your score is after each question, but continue through all the questions until reaching the end. Have fun!!
 
 





After you read:
- Now that you have read the book it is time to see what you learned. Read the report about redbone coonhounds by clicking on    coonhounds   Now click  coonhound quiz . Once you have opened this site then you should click on quiz lab. Then enter caballos in the secret word box. Complete the quiz and see how well you did. The scores will all be emailed to me so you do not need to print them.

- Then go to another fun activity by clicking Red Fern  In this site you will follow the directions given.

Beyond What you Read:
- The title of this book is an old Indian Legend. Choose two more legends to read and once you have read two legends, return to your desk. Your challenge is to create your own legend. This can be about anything relating to animals, people, or places. Put your legends in the folder on my desk. At the end of the year, I will make these legends available as a class booklet.
