The Magic School Bus
Inside a Beehive

Materials:
-Computer with internet access and printer
-The book The Magic School Bus Inside a Beehive
-Pencils
-computer paper
 


Before You Read:
    Do you know anything about honeybees? What do you want to know about honey bees? In a honey bee colony, there are three kinds of bees. The three kinds are the drones, workers, and the queen. Before you read, find out their jobs in the colony.
     Now that you have dipped your feet in the honey, bee brave and go inside the hive. Put your stinger on, and dive into these sticky questions.


After You Read:
    Now that you have read the book you have learned many things about bees. You have read about the different jobs of the bees in the colony, how bees make honey, how bees talk to one another, and how bees get their food. If there was a word in the book that you did not understand, go to the honey bee  glossary for help.

    Now that you know the jobs of the bees, compare your chores at home to those of the honey bee. Please print your answers, and turn them into the teacher.


Beyond What You Read:
    Now that you have earned your wings, buzz your way around this maze to help the bee find his way home. Print the maze out, and use a pencil to complete it. Bee careful not to get lost because your job is important to the hive.
    Now that you have found your way home, print the bee word search, and have fun.
     To tune your buzzer, print off this song, and share it with your friends.
    Pick out a treat you would like to make. Take the recipe home to your parents so you can make a sweet snack together.
